Job purpose
This role supports global regulatory and sustainability compliance across packaging, raw materials, and certification programs, ensuring that our food products and packaging meet both regulatory and voluntary standards. The position will play a key role in managing packaging recyclability requirements, materials compliance, chemical and MRO materials approvals, and alignment with customer ESG goals through operational execution and documentation support and will also leading third-party certification application and renewals.
Duties and Responsibilities
The associate’s primary functions and responsibilities are as follows:
- Monitor and implement packaging-related regulatory requirements across key markets (e.g., UK Plastic Tax, EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation, Canadian EPR by province).
- Coordinate with PLM team and suppliers to ensure compliant material selection and recyclability labeling (e.g., OPRL, How2Recycle).
- Review and approve packaging materials and MRO materials in accordance with food safety, regulatory, and ESG standards (e.g., BPA-free, PFAS, prop 65, clean label).
- Maintain a central material compliance database (Our Records) or approval tracker, ensuring documentation such as SDS, and origin certifications are up to date.
- Coordinate new applications, renewals, and audits for third-party certifications such as: Organic (e.g., USDA, EU, COR), Non-GMO Project Verification, Kosher (OU, COR), Fair Trade / Rainforest Alliance / RSPO, GFCO, Vegan, Peanut Free.
- Collaborate with Quality and Labeling teams to ensure certified claims are correctly reflected on packaging artwork.
- Collect and support documentation for ESG-aligned initiatives request (e.g., recycled content, % certified raw materials, RSPO palm oil, FSC).
- Support RTS leadership in completing customer ESG questionnaires, retailer sustainability scorecards, and 3rd party ESG disclosure surveys, with a focus on packaging, chemical compliance, and product certifications.
- Manage and review regulatory risk assessments of suppliers, including tracking compliance gaps and mitigation status.
- Stay informed about sustainability and environmental compliance trends impacting materials, packaging, and certifications, and adapting company strategies as needed.
- Support in RTS team, collaborating with Supply Chain, QA, Procurement, and Sales.
- Identify ESG risks and opportunities (e.g., reusable packaging pilots, local sourcing credits).
- Contribute to internal training and awareness sessions.
- Manage CDC Program in accordance with Canadian Dairy Commission regulations, ensuring compliance with the SMCPP and proper application and monthly report.
- Manage and monitor participation in government-or industry- led ingredient management programs (e.g., CDC, IREP, SMCPP, U.S Dairy TRQs, Global Affairs Canada allocations), ensuring regulatory compliance, permit accuracy, and cost optimization.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Follow Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety, and Food Defense guidelines.
- Comply with all Company policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, Environmental Science, Regulatory Affairs, or related discipline.
- 3–5 years of experience in regulatory, sustainability, or quality roles in the food industry.
- Working knowledge of global food labeling regulations and certification schemes.
- Familiarity with global packaging compliance (materials, recyclability, EPR), chemical approvals, and ESG disclosures.
- Strong attention to detail, documentation, and project coordination skills.
- Experience with MS Office and regulatory management software.
- Excellent communication and cross-departmental collaboration abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, with the ability to create and manage documents, spreadsheets, email communications, and presentations effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
